Recently, an aerobic dancer has filmed her regular upbeat aerobics class in Burma. What caught the public’s attention is the fact that the video was filmed during the ongoing coup d’etat. In the video, blacked-out military vehicles can be seen rushing towards the parliament, right behind the dancer. Khing Hnin Wai, the girl in the video, was oblivious to the things happening behind her. Later, while she was editing the video, she noticed the military convoy, realizing what was going on.

Khing Hnin Wai said after posting the video on Facebook: “How harmonic with the background music and background scenery!” She added: “Before I heard the news [of the coup] in the morning, the video I made for the aerobic dance competition has become an unforgettable memory.”
The military has staged the coup after a disputed election which saw Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy winning and forming the government. Claiming that there was a fraud during the elections, the military intervened and deposed Ms. Suu Kyi. Still, the video has gone viral, becoming a source of inspiration for meme creators from all around the world. The aerobics teacher said she didn’t film the video to mock the moment of history occurring behind her. “I didn’t dance to do a joke”, she wrote later after the video was viewed over 14 million times.
