It all started in 2012 when Kavik ran away. It was out of fear, after being shot at by a farmer in Birmingham. After all the bad things in 2020, something like this was needed. A “Christmas miracle” as called by his owner has happened. Kavik has been found only 300 miles away and finally reunited with his family!
This Malamute-German shepherd was found just a little bit away from South Lanarkshire, at the place where he went missing.
The story starts in May 2012, when Stevie Rodger – the owner of Kavik took him for a walk. Driven by a lust for freedom and joy Kavik and (Rodger´s other dog) named Konan, ran off. There was a field full of sheep nearby. In Stevie´s own words, what he was about to witness was the “most heart-wrenching sound.” Farmer shot at both animals. Konan (the other dog) was unfortunately hit and died right on spot… Kavik was nowhere to find. He disappeared.
Searching for a Kavik began. A large reward was offered to anyone who will find him for the devastated family.
After looking for some time…after being not succesful…family gave up.
November 17. Birmingham City Council. An appeal was released looking for a newfound dog´s owner. The dog was portrayed in the picture as extremely thin with the caption “timid and friendly.”
The family was contacted and these are the words Stevie (owner of the Kavik) had to say “Sure enough, the dog looked exactly like Kavik but very malnourished and looking very sorry for himself, I sat up all night looking at the picture,” then he added “I jumped in the car in the morning and drove all the way to Birmingham still not sure if it was my boy.
But when I got there I knew instantly it was him and I just burst into tears. He came running over to me and started licking me like he’d seen me just yesterday. It was a very emotional reunion. I can’t quite believe it’s been more than eight years that he’s been gone but he has settled back in fine.”
