Penguin Escapes Killer Whales By Jumping Onto Tourist Boat

A crafty penguin has been filmed as he was running from killer whales. The cunning little creature has managed to escape the vicious predators by jumping onto a boat full of tourists. The penguin was being chased by orcas in the Gerlache Strait, Antarctica.
While running for his life, the little creature was repeatedly jumping out of the water as boats full of tourists watched.

Matthew and Anna Karsten of Expert Vagabond, happened to be there and filmed the entire situation. The couple, who have visited more than 50 countries during the last 10 years, had been heading out for a scenic Zodiac cruise, enjoying the splendor of icebergs and dark waters. Everything was calm and all of a sudden they spotted the large pod of orcas in the water.

Matt has described the whole situation: ‘They swam right up to the camera and said hello. Suddenly the orcas started chasing a gentoo penguin trying to eat it. Back and forth they went with the penguin swimming fast with the orcas on its trail. Eventually the poor penguin tried to jump into a nearby Zodiac boat. The penguin failed at first, falling back into the water, but then managed on the second attempt.’

In the end, everything went fine. The little penguin ended up being saved on the boat and the orcas abandoned their hunt. The orcas did follow the Zodiac boat for a while, though. Sometime after the orcas stopped following the boat, the penguin said goodbye to the boat and hopped back into the icy water. You can see the video of the whole drama below. Enjoy!
