Alesya Kafelnikova posted a video to Instagram of herself lying naked on top of a Sumatran elephant telling her followers that “to love nature is human nature”. Although the video (and some extra pictures posted alongside it) increased her popularity and helped her gain more followers, some didn’t like it.
A spokesperson of Save The Asian Elephants told The Sun: “Yet another tragic trivialization of the majestic Asian elephant when the species is fighting for its very existence against brutal abuse in tourism and human “entertainment”. Alesya Kafelnikova responded by posting another picture.
Beneath the picture, she wrote: “If someone does not know I have been doing charity work for many years and one of my last donations was financial support to animals and to local people in the village, in which I took these photos. It is a pity that people see this as vulgarity, and not as a beauty and love for nature. I love animals, I love elephants! And I love Bali so so much! I hope each of you will awaken an aesthetic love for my post and the beauty.” It seems that her picture and video recently posted on Instagram caused quite a commotion.
The Sumatran elephant on which Alesya Kafelnikova was modeling is a critically endangered species. It is endangered mainly due to deforestation and degradation of its environment. The animals are not native to Bali but are retained on the island in captivity to serve the tourism industry.
