Have you ever thought about which song, would you like to have played at your funeral? As usual, people on Reddit already have. Posted by u/clj73 one day ago, the quesiton is meeting with a lot of popularity. Some of the comments are serious suggestions, others are just pure meme format.
Let´s take a look at some of the choices that people made when it comes down to their song choice for the funeral.
Tetris theme while my coffin is being lowered into the grave
I have to admit, I could not recall this tune. Well, until I searched for it again at least. Now It brings nostalgia out, to the days when me and my brother used to play this game for hours. Also, it kind of stuck in my head. Enter on your own risk disclaimer should be always attached to this kind of catchy tunes
Copyright free sad song
The yellow dollar is a real painmaker. That´s some future digital anti-monetization thinking right there.
The Mario 1-1 theme, and when my coffin is being lowered it switches to the underground theme.
The very same but very different situation as with the Tetris theme song. This was the Minecraft, Fortnite and Among Us of my generation. I could never forget this tune but I do not recommend listening to it for an hour.
I have an agreement with my best friend whoever dies first, the other has to show up on a motorcycle in a grim reaper costume blasting High Way To Hell. Then they should take the bouquet of flowers from the cold dead hands and throw it to the crowd, point the scythe at whoever catches it and say “you’re next”!
Cool story, a cool story for sure.
Stayin’ Alive
Stayin´Alive by Bee Gees? That´s just the greatest punny recommendation right there. Can you imagine how a funeral with this song in the background would go? And if people joined and start dancing “the dance” together?
Always Look On The Bright Side of Life – Monty Python
This song choice is quite a bold one…
Creedence Clearwater Revival –Have You Ever Seen The Rain
I love the vibe of this song. Soft organs, well-mixed drums. Great choice in my opinion.
The 20th century fox theme song!
Not much to add here.
Unironically, Good Riddence by Green Day
Another One Bites the Dust
It’s the Final Countdown
Thematic choice.
The ending song in Return of the King.
“The Show Must Go On” – Queen
These heartbreaking posts…
My wife’s funeral was today. Seriously. She was 58 years old and passed away suddenly, one week ago today, here at home with me. We played Photograph by Ringo Starr then finished with Let it be by The Beatles. I would like the same, please.
This one is a true classic for me. I somehow have managed to listen to it quite frequently in the past two weeks… and Let It Be, I feel like has a special place in the hearts of many people.
“…and suggested ‘Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead’…”
“My mom asked me what song I wanted played at her funeral. I was 14 and she had bowel cancer and was going in for surgery that week. I responded without really thinking and suggested ‘Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead’ from The Wizard of Oz.
My mom survived the surgery and went on to live another 10 years before the cancer finally it her. Her funeral was at a church she’d attended religiously for many years. They started with a heart warming PowerPoint slideshow of photos of her life that my dad had put together. Next, a full church band with singer and back up singers came onto the church stage. The lead vocalist came to the microphone and said “this song was requested by Simon” and then they proceeded to play Ding Dong, The Witch is Dead. They sang two or three lines from it and then changed over to a nicer song. I had no idea she had arranged that. Somewhat blindsided, I looked around the crowded church filled with mourners to find them all staring at me with clear distain/horror. Kudos to my mother for playing the long-game prank.”
